Monkey Innocence


The day the monkey punched me in the nose was stunning, It woke me from a cloud. I had never met him before, but I thought we would be friends. I had nothing to offer but my sweetness, my 5 year old self's innocent attempt at friendliness, to interact with my understanding of how our world's connected.



We were friends in that moment until we weren't. It was a mutual betrayal. Our needs were different, so it could never be the same language at its face.

I learned in that moment, even with animals, it just wasn't that simple. Make believe was never real, Intentions weren't enough. You had to actually put a peanut in the cup...
